Newspaper Poem
Dreams can't be damaged,
Life can't be lost.
Americans signify change,
But that isn't always safe.
Kids become vulnerable,
And lose their innocence.
Changes become rapid,
Shooting through our hearts,
Fighting for a rebound.
We are part of a team.
Please send us down all of Your love...
And please take care of my grandfather in Your world above.
And send down Your blessings onto this place
Even though what happened here was a disgrace.
This man was a son, a brother, and my grandfather too...
Now we are sending his soul up to You.
I know that my grandfather is home with You now,
And that he can be happy because You'll show him how.
Give him the life that he never could have,
And let him know that he wasn't that bad.
The mistakes that he made were all in the past,
And were all made up for until the day that was his last.
It didn't matter to us if he drank his beer,
Because he always let us know how very much he cared.
My grandfather wasn't just some drunk bum on the streets,
He was just looking for a safe place to spend the night and sleep.
I want others to know that this man was a son, a brother, a father, and a friend...
And he never bothered anyone right up until the end.
We'll always wonder what happened that night,
And why that monster decided to take away his life.
I want people to realize that knowing my grandfather was worthwhile,
And I want them to read this, walk away, and smile.
